ZENON | METAMOKSHA

ABOUT

Zenon (Metamoksha) is an interdisciplinary artist, DJ, and curator who positions the rave as a curatorial medium— treating the dancefloor as a site for world‑building and cross‑disciplinary collaboration. Their productions have brought together DJs, performance artists, light designers, poets, fashion designers, and hardcore bands into temporary universes of sound, movement, and immersive visuals. Rooted in Southeast Asian and queer futurisms, Zenon works with speculative fiction and spatial dramaturgy to create events that feel at once magnetic and destabilizing, inviting collective states of dreaming, becoming, and transformation.

They are the founder of Bussy Temple, Singapore’s renowned queer rave and art collective, and co‑founder of 3NiTi, a DJ collective spotlighting femme and queer DJs in Malaysia. Recognised as a driving force in the underground scene, they have produced 30+ cross‑border shows across Singapore, Vietnam, and Malaysia, with work featured in Vogue Singapore, Mixmag Asia, and Life in Arpeggio. In 2023, they were awarded a year‑long residency at T:>Works Singapore, where they developed curatorial formats that fuse rave, performance art, and community‑building—reimagining nightlife as both sanctuary and resistance within Singapore’s tightly controlled cultural landscape.

SELECTED WORKS

Lethal Fantasies: Chrysalis

2024 – T:>Works Singapore (CoThink Lab Fellowship)

A rave exploring femininity in its most grotesque, liminal, and uncontainable forms.

Developed through Bussy Temple’s residency with T:>Works, Chrysalis transformed a black box theatre into a zone of mutation and myth—through sound, lighting, movement, and live performance. While the first edition of Lethal Fantasies focused on reclaiming seduction and power through the lens of third-wave feminism, Chrysalis ventured deeper into the grotesque, the unbecoming, and the not-yet. It asked: where does transformation end and monstrosity begin?

PRIMORDIA by Bussy Temple and :Dismal (VN)

2025 July – Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

A cross-border collaboration with DJs, performance artists, and visual artists across Southeast Asia and beyond (Singapore – Vietnam – Indonesia – France – Australia)

PRIMORDIA delved into ritual, ancestry, and queer embodiment—staging the rave as a site of emergence, decay, and rebirth. Drawing on butoh, rope performance, and immersive visual design, the night explored the liminal space between eroticism and monstrosity, sacredness and ferality. Through overlapping gestures of sound, light, and movement, PRIMORDIA summoned a mythic atmosphere where transformation was not metaphorical, but embodied.

Co-created across borders, PRIMORDIA marked a rare convergence of Southeast Asian queer collectives, uniting DJs, movement artists, and visual collaborators from Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, France, and Australia. The night was both communion and revolt—an offering toward a regional future built through intimacy, intensity, and shared imagination.

XENOFLESH

2023 – MDLR Singapore

An immersive collision of noise, techno, and movement-based experimental performances exploring queer posthumanism.

Departing from Donna Haraway’s Cyborg Manifesto, XENOFLESH imagined technology not as escapism but as a portal for connection—where data, emotion, and subjectivity converge. Set against a backdrop of noise, movement, and light, the event brought together experimental artists to dissolve the boundaries between machine and nature, human and mutant, body and sound.

Curated in dialogue with xenofeminist thought, XENOFLESH approached techno-futurism as a space for empathy and intimacy—reimagining technology as a medium to envision a mutant queer future built on collective transformation.

Started by Zenon and Victoria (rEmPiT g0dDe$$), the series emerged from their shared observation of the lack of platforms genuinely dedicated to Southeast Asian femme and queer artists in electronic music—especially those led by regional voices. Since June 2024, they have curated a lineup of emerging talent from Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Myanmar, prioritizing underrepresented voices that showcase cutting edge and distinct contributions to the region’s growing electronic music landscape.
