EROTICA transformed Padimai Art and Tech Gallery into a rave theatre in two acts, exploring desire in the age of consumption through the lens of the yin.
Through ritual, immersive multimedia performance, and the rave, the EROTICA universe reimagines desire as a vitality that is inherently unstable and generative, a force that confronts the sacred and the profane within.
The Sacred
An immersive performance ritual developed by Metamoksha and Gula Malacca. Participants were invited to invoke their deepest desires before Bussy Temple’s altar, then took part in a shedding ritual to release what no longer serves them.
The activation was accompanied by spoken word by Marylyn Tan, reading from The Oscar Rosary as Poet / Prophet / Pervert, set to angelic harp and electronic instrumentation by howrøng.
The Profane
The rave is activated through multimedia performance art: a power-play performance by Gula Malacca and howrøng, EROTICA’s manifesto by Minsoo Bae, video work exploring desire by Bussy Temple screened around the space, and DJ sets.
